Teacher Profile
I began dancing at the Simone school of dance and trained in Ballet, Freestyle, Modern Jazz, Tap, Rock 'n' Roll, Gymnastic dance and Musical Theatre.
I completed my IDTA qualifications and teacher qualifications at sixteen and went onto choreograph and teach at the Simone School of Dance.
Whilst training I was a member of the International Cabaret company. I performed and choreographed for the company and toured around many Midland theatres with International Cabaret. It was while I was working with this company I gained my equity card.
After this I went onto perform at the Old Rep theatre and was James in James and the Giant Peach. I then had many other various lead parts in Flight, Fright and Fantasy and James Bond, all performed at the Crescent Theatre.
I then went onto perform at 'Her Majesty's Theatre,' 'Sadlers Wells,' and choreograph and perform at 'The Royal Albert Hall,' in various variety dance perormances. This led me to perform in DisneyLand Paris at a one night summer special performance.
At eighteen I went to Wolverhampton University and studied contemporary, ballet and jazz and gained a BA/HONS Degree in Dance. Throughout the course I was given many great oppurtunities like, performing at the Hippodrome Theatre to showcase my choreography. As well as working with the BBC to choreograph a dance trailer that was used to promote dance videos. I was also involved in a rsearch project that looked at the significance of IPOD dance videos, which led my dance video which I had choreographed and danced in to be shown at the Lighthouse Cinema in Wolverhampton.
When I was in my second year of my degree I set up the 'Amy Greaves School of Dance,' which is now an established dance school that caters for all ages and abilities and encourages pupils to participate in regular show and exam work.
After graduating I have gone on to develop my dance school, my dance school has performed at various theatres in Birmingham and London and continues to be successful in achieving 100% pass rate in their IDTA examinations.
Whilst setting up my dance school I also worked in various primary and secondary schools as a dance/drama coach.
I am currently working as a dance, drama and PE teacher at Ninestiles Secondary school, I am involved in all aspects of the curriculum and deliver GCSE and BTEC lessons. As part of my teaching career I have had lots of oppurtunities to enhance dance by giving students the oppurtunity to perform at the Town Hall and shoot video advertisements for musical companies.
As well as that I recently choreographed two group dances for my dance school which were performed in the show, 'Stars in their eyes,' at Her Majesty's theatre in the West End of London.
I have just finished choreographing and directing the show Le Premiere which was performed at the Artrix Theatre by 150 students from my dance school.
This year I have worked on choreographing dances for a performance at the wonderful Sadler's Wells theatre in London. I have also been very proud of all the students gaining 100% rate in their IDTA examinations. As well as this I have also choreographed dances that were performed at the East Midlands network festivals and were selected to be performed at The Town Hall.
During 2011 I choreographed and produced the show Mystique which was performed by 120 dancers at the Arrix theatre which was a huge success.
I am now looking forward to working with the dance students and preparing them for their exams in 2011/2012. I am also very pleased to be working on the choreography for a special performance at the Royal Albert Hall and delighted to have received a promotion and is now the Head of Dance at Ninestiles School.
